January was a significant month for the passenger rail project in the New River Valley as the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) released a 30% design update at their board meeting on January 23rd. The VPRA team came to the region on January 25th to brief a joint meeting between the NRV Passenger Rail Station Authority and the larger NRV Passenger Rail advocacy group on findings from the study. An overview presentation on the study can be found on the VPRA site at this link. VPRA also held an open house to receive feedback from the public on January 29th 4:30-8:00 at the Blacksburg Community Center. Next steps for this project include additional environmental review through the National Environmental Policy Act which will help narrow down the final station location.
